At 3 and a half weeks old Lola was diagnosed with a significant hearing loss, she has since been diagnosed as profoundly deaf.
At about 5 weeks old age was fitted with hearing aids and we started the long journey around her hearing impairment. As part of the support we receive Lola has lots of medical appointments but absolutely no support for learning BSL and maybe more importantly no support for family members to learn BSL. So for the past month we have, as an extended family, been learning BSL for beginners which is financially supported by the National Deaf Children's Society and will give us simple everyday words to help us communicate with Lola. However, we need more! The money donated by the Jac Bach Eluson charity will allow both Josh and I to train to level 3 in BSL and therefore communicate properly with Lola, as well as help her to develop her own language and communication skills. We are also hoping that the money may enable us to open up the classes to other families hoping to learn BSL in order to aid their own hearing impaired journeys!
We were both blown away by the donation and will never be able to thank Sian and Jac enough for what they have done!
